Last weekend we kicked off the Christmas season by taking a look at Jesus’ family tree. Like your family, He had some nuts on there! From Matthew 1 we took a look at five ladies in the genealogy. This coming weekend we’ll look at some of the men and I see that Jesus had some Cousin Eddie’s in there!
Your family history and ancestry is important. Someone once wrote DEAR ABBY: “I have always wanted to have my family history traced, but I can’t afford to spend a lot of money to do it. Any suggestions?” Her reply: “Register as a Republican, and run for public office.”
Our Christmas Dessert Theater is almost here and I can’t wait! Denver Bierman and our WCCC choir will deck the halls and rock the house! We still need some bakers for this event. If you like to bake, this is a GREAT opportunity to serve the Lord by signing up to bring in baked goods. Items needed include: pumpkin, apple or cherry pies, yellow cake, or cookies (any variety). Sign-up in the Atrium this weekend or email the office.
Do you love decorating for Christmas? You can also enter the Dessert Theater Table Decorating Contest and share your talents with our Dessert Theater guests. Tables will be judged and a winner will be announced, along with a nice gift. We have several tables still available. Interested?? Sign-up in the Atrium to get your table assignment and decorating rules. Thank you for volunteering to help with our 3rd Dessert Theater event!
Speaking of family, have you purchased your Christmas gifts yet? Here are some ideas from Joan Lunden – former Good Morning America TV host. 1.) A special Jaguar car – order with an $80,000 deposit and pay the balance of $507,000 when delivered. Only 220 made each year. 2.) The new car wax for the Jaguar – 8 oz can for $3,400. 3.) A $300,000 gold and silver toilet seat that is inlaid with precious stones. 4.) An $18,000 Frisbee, a $10,000 yoyo, a $12,000 mouse trap, or even a $27,000 pair of sunglasses. 5.) For special babies there is a $28,000 pacifier available too! If you are considering any of these, please call me this week, as I have some awesome projects here at church we really want to do, but lack funding for!
January will be here before you know it, and 2012 will be our most exciting year yet as a church! Make sure you mark Sunday night, January 8 on your calendar for our first ever WCCC Vision dessert night at The Woodlands. We want everyone who calls WCCC their church home to be there! There is no charge. We will start taking reservations for this event on Monday, December 12. Please email your RSVP with how many will be attending from your family. Child care is available for children 6 months thru 4th Grade. It will also be at The Woodlands. Reservations are required by January 2nd.
WCCC is so generous! Our recent Thank Offering to help under-resourced people was over $19,000 and people are still talking about the Christmas Toy Store! (see picture below) Last Friday night was an amazing night loving others LOUDLY in the name of Jesus. 56 families (and 125 children) were served.
Christmas Weekend services will be unique and powerful. Families will sit together and Jesus will be worshipped. All four services will be identical this year. Christmas Eve times are 3, 5, and 11:00pm and Christmas Day time is 10:45am. (Adult classes will be dismissed on Christmas Weekend and the church office will be closed December 26.) We will be returning to our normal weekend service times on Saturday, December 31, at 5pm and Sunday, January 1, at 9 and 10:45am. (Some classes are also meeting.) Come and ring in the New Year with us! This will be our annual ‘Ask the Preacher’ Q and A weekend, which is always a hit!
P.S. Today we also remember Pearl Harbor and the events that changed the world. We are grateful for those men and women who sacrificed then for us to enjoy Christmas now.
