Tough to read the news coming out of Boston this week with the bombing. Lots of questions we have, which may never have answers this side of heaven. Where is God’s story in THAT story?! Trust me, He was there and he IS there. In this very depraved world we see the evil of man, but we also see the hand of God. Listen in coming days to the stories of Him at work.
For now, let’s pray for the victims and their families. Let’s also take comfort in the knowledge that God promises those who plot such evil will someday be brought to justice. Perhaps it won’t be on earth, but in the courtroom of heaven. Psalm 64 is a great one to read on days like these.May it bring you comfort and courage.
1 Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the plots of evildoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, “Who will see it?”
6 They plot injustice and say, “We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.
7 But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down.
8 He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
9 All people will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done.
10 The righteous will rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him!
This Psalm was written by the man whose life we will begin to study this coming weekend – David. (I like that name!) His story is so compelling that we will take the next 2 weekends to cover it. Tyler McKenzie did a fantastic job covering Saul last weekend, leading us up to young David. I’ll be back to share it and I can’t wait. Read chapter 11 and invite someone to come with you.
Being a man after God’s own heart is vital. The Men’s Banquet will help you and it is coming up on May 17th. Buy your tickets now! Either online through our website (Men’s Banquet), or in the Atrium this weekend. The Men’s Banquet is a great opportunity to invite a friend, co-worker and neighbor to a great event. The Banquet speaker, Chuck Proudfit, will inspire and challenge you to view your work differently.
Our Love Out Loud (LOL) Ministry Team is also coordinating a Day of Service to bless our community on Saturday, May 4th from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Several key projects are planned for us (men AND women) to serve and love our neighbors in the name of Jesus. Look for the great list of opportunities in the bulletin (and web) this weekend. Lunch will be provided! (Info/sign-up)
I have been doing some traveling in recent days with a van load of very bright and talented folks from our Staff and Design/Construction Team. We have been visiting churches larger than ours taking a close look at their campus/facilities as we continue to work on our vision for Phase 2 here.We visited 6 churches in 4 states in 3 days (and we still like each other!) Thank God for visionary leaders and members we have here at Whitewater. We are so blessed. Please pray for all our teams involved in this who are diligently and patiently working behind the scenes. We will keep you informed as details are worked out in coming months.
I love The story!
